World Mental Health Day takes place every year on October 10 to spotlight mental health around the world, raise awareness of mental health issues. To coincide with this day, High School West DECA members Brody Meier and Katie Dunn hosted a Mental Health Awareness Seminar in the HSW library, in which CTE classes participated throughout the day. Brody and Katie are competing this year in the Community Awareness Project for their DECA Competition, in which they have the opportunity to raise awareness for a community issue or cause.
The seminar started off with Brody and Katie discussing their “Voices for Change” campaign by having students participate in a Kahoot about Mental Health facts and scenarios. The students then broke out into various activities that would be beneficial to an individual's mental health, including coloring, rock painting, and playing games such as Jenga, Uno, and Connect 4.
Students ended the seminar with writing pledges on how they plan to be a “Voice for Change” either for themselves or others.
Congratulations to Brody and Katie on a successful event, and for continuing to spread awareness and being a “Voice for Change!”
