High School West and Accompsett Middle School language teacher, Monique Barricelli, has been honored as Teacher of the Month by the Long Island Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Italian (AATI-LI).
"I was overwhelmed because I'm surrounded by master teachers, so it was humbling," Barricelli told us. "To be recognized by your peers, there's no better type of recognition."
A teacher in the district since 2005, Barricelli teaches Italian daily at High School West and Accompsett Middle School. Been in SCD since 2005. What's her secret to being a successful teacher?
"You have to make your lessons engaging to the point where you're not bored with the lesson. You have to make that connection to the students where they want to learn and be curious and want more."
