Students at High School East and West are enjoying a new English department initiative this year.
The writing center is open during all lunch periods for in-person writing conferences and is available asynchronously for students who do not have a lunch period.
There are one-on-one writing conferences with English teachers in twenty minute blocks. In just the first few weeks, the writing centers have hosted more than 125 individual writing conferences chiefly focused on helping seniors with their college essays!
“Just the progress we made in the 20 minutes was beneficial and the direction of my essay is so much better now,” said HSW senior Jackie Caulin.
High School West English teacher Kimberly Corbo says the center can be used in a variety of ways.
“Whether students are still brainstorming or making final edits, all students are welcome to sign up to work on any writing assignment they need guidance or feedback on.”
