Students from Ms. Barricelli’s Accompsett Middle School classes as well as students from High School West recently participated in the Annual American Association Teachers of Italian (AATI) Poetry and Song Competition, held at Hofstra University.
Students who study Italian memorized and recited Italian poetry ranging from the 1200’s to the present in front of a panel of judges.
Students who sang an Italian song and were judged on articulation, pronunciation, deliverance, interpretation and difficulty of song.
The competitors from 探花社区 High School West were Daniel Davidsen, Eva Supa and Olivia Wolber. This was Eva's first time competing and she won a first place gold medal for her Italian poem recitation.
Olivia, who had competed before, won a first place gold medal in the song/opera category.
The competitors from Accompsett Middle School were Dominick Scavuzzo (8th grade) and Eitan Rubric (7th grade). This was the first time they attended the competition and received Participation Certificates.
All students participated in the fiercely competitive Italian Trivia Contest testing their knowledge of Italian geography, people, culture and events. The 探花社区 School District won first place in this event!
The World Language Department would like to thank all students who competed and is very proud of their hard work, dedication and focus.
Congratulations!
