In continuation of Police Appreciation week in the SCSD, Accompsett Middle School sixth graders were visited by a special four-legged friend on Thursday.
“Gunnar” who works for the SCPD K-9 unit, along with officer Ryan Neems, stopped by to educate the students on life as a police dog.
Officer Neems gave the students a synopsis of the training and patrol work Gunnar does.
Gunnar, a six-year old German Shepherd, is a bomb dog who is trained to smell special compounds in bombs.
He also helps find missing people, weapons, and stolen merchandise.
