A two-year research fellowship, spearheaded by The Paige Elizabeth Keely Foundation, was announced by Stony Brook University Medicine on Jan. 23.
St. James resident, Gina Keely, whose 6-year-old daughter Paige lost her life due to a ruptured arteriovenous malformation in 2018, was on hand at Stony Brook University to take part in the ceremony.
“I am not a celebrity, I am a mom on a mission,” Mrs. Keely exclaimed.
Paige Elizabeth Keely was a student at St. James Elementary School.
The team at Stony Brook will look to further understand the basic science of AVM ruptures, identify the best treatment once the ruptures are discovered, and develop early detection of brain AVMs.
