What's your favorite ice cream? Do you have a favorite day of the week? How about your favorite search engine? These are some of the important issues High School West seniors voted on Tuesday, during a mock election conducted by the Suffolk County Board of Elections.
Representatives stopped by to conduct a Voter Information Program with the seniors throughout the day. The presentation involves teaching the graduating 12th graders about the importance of voting, the process itself, and then assists the students with voter registration. After, they ended with an "ice cream ballot" where students did a mock election (voting on ice cream flavors) using the actual voting machines/ballot scanners.
The presentation was organized by seniors Stephen Hunt and Juliana Pinelli as part of their civic capstone project regarding youth voter turnout.
