探花社区 High School East students in Mrs. Volpicella’s Forensics 1 class got a firsthand account from those who have a nose for crime today.
Suffolk County Police Department officers Mark Sacco and Ryan Neems, who work in the SCPD K9 Unit, brought their police dogs, Valor and Gunnar, and spoke about the function of the dogs and how they use their sense of smell to help. The students were eager to learn about the dogs’ unique skills in aiding their handlers in catching criminals and solving crimes.
Valor and Gunnar are both German Shepherds and two of 20 canines the SCPD currently has working in their unit.
