As they made their way through the traffic circle at High School West, West alumnus, Paul Weisman, and his friend, Jordan Tarazi, stopped to thank the many students and faculty who were applauding them.
“This is great. What you’re doing is awesome,” Weisman said. “There is a cure, we just haven’t found it yet.”
Weisman and Tarazi are part of the ALS Ride for Life organization which stopped at High School West on Friday afternoon as part of their two week "Journey of Hope." For this annual event, ALS patients ride their wheelchairs from eastern Long Island to Manhattan in order to raise awareness for ALS.
11th & 12th Grade Leadership and National Honor Society students, as well as Accompsett Middle School Junior Honor Society & Community Service Club students, cheered the men on and held signs of support.
“We are honored to be included as a stop on their journey,” said High School West Social Studies teacher Joan Havranek.
