“The skills you have gained here will have you one step ahead, every step of the way.”
Those were the words of SCSD Superintendent Mark Secaur as he addressed high school students at the SCSD 29th annual Business Olympics, held at High School West.
The restaurant project titled, “In Season,” earned the honors of best business plan.
The 1st place team, comprised of HSW students Kate Braun, Reese Jurman, Charlotte Muratore and Madeline Sacco, created the restaurant using farm to table ingredients from local farms. In addition to consumers having the capability to customize healthy meal options based on produce that is "in season," the students also came up with an idea for an app where you can create a profile and put in all your options, food allergies. etc..and create a healthy meal.
Over the last 29 years business students from both 探花社区 High Schools have been tasked with creating marketing campaigns, new products, eco-friendly businesses and imagining the 21st century classroom.
This year’s theme was “探花社区 Food Service Entrepreneur” and the students did not disappoint. There were more than 200 students who competed from 探花社区 High School East and West with over 55 teams representing the schools.
CTE Director Christine LoFrese and IAB Executive Director Phil Como began the night by congratulating the students on their hard work and business plans.
The eight finalists presented their plans “Shark Tank”-style in front of judges as well as in front of other students and family members.
“In Season” was chosen by a group of judges from the 探花社区 IAB, School Administration and faculty.
More than 50 judges volunteered to take part in the event.
Special thank you to the School of Business faculty and our Industry partners for all their efforts in making this event a success!
