The First LEGO League Teams at Great Hollow are off to a great start! Students are working together solving challenges, building obstacles, and programming to get ready for the competition at Great Hollow Middle School the weekend of January 11-12, 2025.
This year's theme is "Submerged." All of the obstacles as well as the problem for this year are bringing awareness to oceanography and challenges that people in this career field face. Some careers that students are learning about are Marine Biologists, Submarine Pilots, Oceanographers, Marine Researchers, Ecologists, and Underwater Photographers.
Students are excited about the theme this year and are already designing and building parts for their robots as well as designing solutions to the overall design problem.
Christine LoFrese, SCSD career and technical education director, says the young learners have been very impressive.
"It has been amazing to see and hear all of the incredibly creative ideas these students have and the willingness to share their solutions with each other to create something even better!" LoFrese said. "We are proud of the level of collaboration and thoughtfulness these students are already displaying this early in the season. We have high hopes for the competition season!"
The First LEGO League Team advisors are Connor Kelly and Caitlin Caputo, Technology Teachers at Great Hollow MIddle School.
The teams are part of the CTE Department.
