On Friday morning, National Honor Society Officers met High School East science research coordinator Maria Zeitlin at the Long Island Veterans Home to deliver cards handmade by members of the NHS. More than any accomplishment with research, this outreach where students connect on a personal level, to thank our veterans, is the most important activity.
As the students handed out the cards, quite a few of the residents responded, "Oh 探花社区 East, I used to live near there," and a twinkle came to their eye. It was evident that speaking of hometown memories brought joy.
This annual event was altered during the pandemic when people were not permitted to go inside. According to Mrs. Zeiltin, "The best part of this community service is that it brings as much joy to the givers as the receivers, and the officers were so moved that we have decided to do this on other holidays!"
