Three High School West students were honored for their efforts in building bridges across communities and working on intergenerational projects by being awarded the Yom Hashoah- Building Bridges Award.

Alyssa Griesman, Abigail Jung and Eva Supa all were honored and will be invited to the Commemoration and will receive proclamations from elected officials and JCRC-LI.

High School West social studies teacher Erica Geldmacher had the following to say about each student.

Alyssa is an excellent student who is committed to community service and helping others. She has volunteered her time at events such as the community Safe Halloween event and school blood drive, and has been a tremendous asset to our Interact Club. In Interact, she was a major help with the "Teddy Bear Brigade" project, which involved collecting hundreds of stuffed animals that were sent to children in war-torn regions and areas affected by natural disasters.

Abigail is an exemplary student who has volunteered significant time in Interact Club to facilitate projects such as our annual Thanksgiving food drive. Abby helped collect hundreds of cans of food, and then meticulously helped to sort and package it for dozens of families in our community who were in need during the holiday season. Abby was also very involved with the Pulsera Project last year, which empowers Central American artists through the sale of hand-woven bracelets (proceeds from the sale of these pulseras create sustainable fair trade jobs in Nicaragua and Guatemala, where few such opportunities exist).

Eva Supa is a caring and empathetic student who has helped with various school projects through her Leadership class and Interact Club. Eva was involved with the facilitation of a beautiful wreath ceremony this past fall to commemorate the anniversary of the September 11 tragedy, and she has helped organize a variety of other activities. She is currently helping to plan a fundraiser to provide relief for Ukrainian citizens.
