Mills Pond Elementary fifth grader Gia Mayer was recognized Tuesday night by the SCSD Board of Education for being named one of the winners of the "I Am EM-powered" Public Service announcement contest sponsored by PSEG Long Island.
Gia, a student in Mrs. Lanze's class, created a commercial convincing others to conserve resources.
She received an Amazon gift card and money towards a class party which her and her class already enjoyed!
“I didn’t believe it at first." Gia told us. "I was like wow there’s no way I’m going to win. And then it clicked.”
Gia was joined by her parents, Danielle and Ernest, Mills Pond Elementary School Principal Irene Westrack, and PSEG representatives Amy Di Leo and Peter Hornick.
